How Much Space Do You Need for a Bounce House?

Yard size, clearance, and surface requirements for a bounce house, water slide, or combo unit — measure before you book.

The short answer

A standard 13×13-foot bounce house needs about 15×15 feet of flat space, plus 5–6 feet of clearance on all sides and about 18 feet of overhead clearance from branches and power lines. Combos and water slides often need 20×30 feet or more.

Best and worst surfaces

Flat grass is ideal because units can be staked. Concrete and asphalt work with sandbags and tarps. Avoid slopes, rocks, sprinkler heads, and anywhere near pools, fences, or roads.

Power and access

Blowers need a dedicated outlet within about 50–100 feet; if not, ask for a generator. Tell the company about stairs, gates, and narrow paths when you book.
